Ink cartridges can be a bit temperamental sometimes — but don’t panic. Here are the most common issues people run into, and how to fix them quickly.
1. Printer Says Cartridge Is Empty (But It’s Not)
Fix:
- Remove the cartridge, gently wipe the contacts with a lint-free cloth, and reinstall.
- Make sure you're using genuine cartridges — compatibles can trigger false alerts.
2. Cartridge Not Recognised
Fix:
- Power off the printer, unplug it for a minute, then power back on.
- Reinstall the cartridge carefully.
- Check for protective tape — sometimes it's still on!
3. Poor Print Quality (Streaks or Faded Prints)
Fix:
- Run a printhead cleaning via your printer settings.
- Check the ink levels — one colour might be low.
- Try printing a test page and aligning the printhead if needed.
4. Ink Leaks or Smudges
Fix:
- Remove the cartridge and gently clean the area around the printhead.
- Avoid shaking the cartridge before installing it.
- Store spares upright in a cool, dry place.
5. Dry or Clogged Cartridges
Fix:
- Use the printer’s cleaning cycle.
- If that fails, try soaking the printhead (just the bottom) in warm water for a few minutes, then dry it completely before reinserting.
Tip: Using your printer regularly helps prevent many of these issues — and always choose genuine ink for the best performance.
