The Canon PIXMA MG4250 printer uses Canon 540/541 ink cartridges, available in two black options — the standard PG-540 (180 pages) and the higher-yield PG-540L (300 pages) — plus a PG-540L twin pack for extra value. The colour cartridge is available as the standard CL-541 (180 pages) or the higher-yield CL-541XL (400 pages). If you're looking for the PG-540XL, it was discontinued in 2024 and has been replaced by the PG-540L — so the 540L is the one to go for if you previously used the XL. Various mixed bundle options are also available covering both yield tiers. The MG4250 is part of the Canon PIXMA MG4200 series — all models in this range use the same ink cartridges.
